unit 3 produce craft work

3.1.1 Time Plan.

3.1.2/3.2.1/3.2.2 Screen Grabs of Work in Progress.

For my idea " Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional " i took an image of some soldiers running down a desert path from google and pasted it into photoshop.

I then added a different sky that i found on google to the soldier image, the reason being that i wanted to place the African slaves in the sky, but the sky in the soldier image would not stretch to the top of the screen so i had to get a new one. I have the original image of the sky before i manipulated it to fit the soldier image:
To fit it with the soldier image i had to use the eraser tool to get rid of the ground in the original sky image, i then had to erase the parts of the sky that were covering the soldiers heads and fill in the gaps around there head with the paintbrush, i used the eyedrop tool to get the correct color. I later realized, whilst writing this, that i could have just dropped the sky behind the image of the soldiers.

I then got an image of some African slaves from google and put it in the sky, i had to use the blending options for an overlay and put the opacity at 0, i then used the eraser with a low opacity to blend it even more rubbing out the edges i finished of by using different variations to change the color of the image and make it more blue. I have the original image here:
And finally i added the text "Pain is inevitable " at the top in the clouds, i colored it blue and used the blur tool to make it blend more. And for the text " Suffering is optional " i colored it red and made it slightly bigger.

3.3.1/3.3.2/3.3.3 Evaluation: I really enjoyed creating this poster i learned a lot of new skills in photoshop and feel confident that i can produce better work in the future. I had a few problems with creating this image i changed the idea a few times because of feedback from peers, but i feel i made the right decision.

unit 2 explore materials, tools and techniques to support craft ideas

2.1.1/2.1.2/2.1.3/2.1.4  this is the picture before i Photoshoped it:
And this is the picture after i Photoshoped it, the idea was to make small imperfections whilst keeping her beautiful:

what i did was take some of the color from her skin, drew some subtle wrinkles on her eyelids and added an almost unnoticeable spot on her right cheek.

2.1.1/2.1.2/2.1.3/2.1.4 our task was to take a picture from google and super impose 3 things from somewhere else, this is the picture i chose:

i then took an image of super man from google and pasted it onto my base picture, i use a rubber to get rid of the background in the picture of superman to make it blend in.

I then took an image of the grim reaper from google and erased everything but his red eyes and placed them in the tree to the right so it would blend with the shadows.

Then for the final picture i took the cookie monster from google and used the magic tool to erase the background and placed him at the bottom of the picture.

I then flattened the image and used the variation more green to blend everything.

Overall i think i should have chosen a different background picture because it was hard to shadow anything i super imposed into it, i also think i could have blurred superman out a bit to make him fit better with the trees.

2.1.5 Health and Safety

i worked safely because of regular breaks within every two hours, i had my chair at the correct height and correct distance from the computer, my arms were horizontal to the keyboard, i didn't drink around the computer, and i kept bags under the table and out of the way so i wouldn't trip.

unit 1 research and develop craft ideas

1.1.1/1.1.2 Annotation of four artists:

Frictional Games:
I chose Frictional Games because of a game they made called Amnesia the Dark Descent easily the scariest game I have played in my entire life, I am going to show you a picture from the game and tell you what I think about (analyze) it:
In the picture below we have what appears to be a flooded corridor, which in itself is a cause for concern not to mention the few candles giving off barely any light and the strange red flesh, I would guess, growing on the walls and the random blood stains, we also have a barricade made up of chairs and boxes and broken wood, obviously to keep something out what exactly we don’t know (unless you’ve played the game which I don’t recommend….scary stuff). Already we have a pretty intense atmosphere, the only hope you have is the light at the top just out of reach, a false sense of hope it’s like everything in this picture is meant to demoralize you, to completely crush you, the fog just ahead of the barricade leaving you unable to see what’s there unless you leave the safety of the barricade, the one thing you don’t want to do, the water dragging at you slowing you down and leaving you unable to see the floor making you more likely to trip on something. Frictional Games really went all out on this game and it shows.

1.       Square Enix
I chose SQUARE ENIX because I have played a lot of their games and fell in love with the art work, the intricacy of their designs, the atmosphere it creates and thinking about how they came up with it just boggles my mind. I have a concept art picture from their game FINAL FANTASY 13 and I am going to tell you what I think about (analyse) it:
In the picture we have a huge icy landscape that could be inside a cave judging by the curving ceiling and the light shining in from the end, but I think it could be a huge frozen wave, the reason I think this is because the ice on the ground has a resemblance to small waves and huge splashes of water, as if a vast amount of turbulent water was instantly frozen, also you cannot see if the “ceiling” meets the ground on the other side which makes me think it’s a huge wave suspended above the ground, frozen. This makes the viewer’s (who haven’t played the game) question it and gives it mystery. And to only further the mystery they add a strange huge object in the middle of it all, standing out amongst the sea of blue and white with its simple black, making you think: Maybe this was the cause of the ice? Maybe this was holding it back? Maybe it had nothing to do with it? Then there is the last part of the picture which adds more mystery and shows just how huge everything else really is, the two small people looking as out of place as the giant object forcing the views to ask even more questions, intriguing them even more. If someone looked at this without having played the game I think it would make them want to buy it just to find out, I don’t know if this is what the artist intended for it, but it would make a great advertisement poster. All in all a very well done and beautiful picture.

Nico Di Mattia
I chose Nico Di Mattia because my friend introduced me to his work, he uses Photoshop to create his pictures and the outcome is incredible, they look as if they were taken by a camera. I’m going to show you a picture he created using Photoshop and tell you what I think about (analyse) it:
The picture below is of Megan Fox an actor in a film called Transformers, it was drawn in Photoshop by Nico Di Mattia and it looks as though it was taken with a camera, first off we have the placement of the shadows, the way he does this is probably what gives the picture most of its realism, then we have her face, the placement of her eyes, nose and mouth, the shape of them and the detail only add to the realism, even the way the hair flows and the shape of her body, even down to the little skin crease on her elbow and the creases in her clothes. Also the way the background is blurred out makes this look as though it were taken by a camera, or actually if you were stood there looking at her, your eyes completely focused on her, thus the background becoming unfocused. The whole thing is just mind blowing and envy provoking, this guy truly knows how to draw something and make it look incredibly real.

1.       Ubisoft

I chose UBISOFT because of a game called ASSASSINS CREED which took the adventure/action genre to a whole new level. I have a concept art picture from this game and I am going to tell you what I think about (analyse) it:

In this picture we have a place called San Marco, and what I love about this is that they’ve taken a real place and made it look unreal; the way it’s been drawn makes it look brand new, yet old at the same time as though it were from a story book. The intricacy of the design of the building to the far left gives it a sense of beauty and cleanliness, it makes you think it’s a safe and important place, a good place, yet the building right next to it is of simple design and looks more like a prison, it’s as if the artist has placed good and evil together, and then thrown in an odd twist by having the “evil” side shining in the light and the “good” side shrouded in darkness. Also the lack of people near the “evil” side and the doves flying around the “good” side giving a sense of freedom to the picture only emphasise the strange twist.

1.1.3 The theme which REVOLUTIONART asked us to base our art work (poster) on is I Demand. The guidelines which we have to follow are: 550 pi by 920 pi or 550 pi by 460 pi, and to send them in high quality 300dpi as a rbg or jpg, they also ask us not to include self promotion items, spam, internet addresses, watermarks, company logos or overprints on our artwork. Though it isn't a requirement they do allow the use of their logo.

1.1.3/1.2.1 Mind Map and Thumb Nail Sketches

the idea " blood follows blood " depicts the concept of an eye for and eye.
this idea " trust us, no f@*!ing way " promotes the untrustworthy acts of the government.
the idea of  " pain is inevitable, suffering is optional " is to always keep moving forward and to fight for what you believe in.

1.1.4/1.2.3 I chose the idea " Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional " as my final idea because i feel it connects more with the theme " I Demand. " I feel it connects more with the theme " I Demand " because i think what most people demand is an end to suffering and a need to be free.

1.2.2 Feedback
My classmate Jordan said he liked the idea " Trust us, no f@!*ing way " because it was true and humorous though he didn't offer anything in the way of improvements.
My classmate Martin said he liked the idea " Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional " And suggested i could blend the image of the slaves in the sky with the sky to make it look like they were in the clouds.i decided to include this idea in my project.
